Aptera, the three-wheeled EV, gets more funding
The ambitious EV by Aptera has just received a huge amount of funding that will get this trike even closer to its production. If this is the first time you are hearing about Aptera, that would not by a surprise. This unique EV was only announced at the end of 2020. Now, Sandy Munro of Munro & Associates, Inc. has invited $4 million USD which could allow a 2021 production.
“We’re excited to have Sandy’s support as we move into the Beta Design design phase of our Solar Electric Vehicles production plan. His decades of automotive knowledge and genius analysis of other EV players is great validation that we’re on the right path,” responds Chris Anthony, Co-Founder of Aptera.
What to expect from Aptera.
The Aptera is a three-wheeled and two-seater EV with some huge expectations on it. These expectations are a promised range of 1600 km and self-charging. This is achievable thanks to a solar-powered roof array that will actively charge the vehicle while it is driving. Around 65 km a day on pure solar energy alone. This is of course provided that it is outside and it’s a very sunny day.
As a three-wheeled vehicle, the Aptera already stands out on the road, but the design does that even more. A very streamlined design that has a claimed drag coefficiency of 0.15 creates a very unique shape, even for a three-wheeler. This shape and lightweight material get a curb weight of just 816 kg.
The company has goals of producing 10 000 models ready by 2022. Right now pricing looks to start at $25 900 and reach over $46 000. Thanks to this new funding, we might get more detailed specifications and pricing later this year.
