Sony will not make the Vision-S

We first saw the Sony Vision-S in 2020 when the brand surprised us all with a concept car. It was an electric sedan that Sony plans to push autonomous driving with. This got many of us excited and with the constant updates on the Sony Vision-S, we started to assume that it could go into production.

However, despite all the public testing, Sony has said to Car and Driver that they won’t be bringing the Vision-S into production.

“At present, we have no plans to mass-produce or sell the vehicle. With mobility expected as a major megatrend into the future, we’re exploring how Sony can contribute in a meaningful way to the era of autonomous driving.” – Sony spokesperson.

What will come from the Sony Vision-S concept then?

While there are no plans for mass-production, the Vision-S is being used to test the future of autonomous driving and onboard entertainment. If you are not going to be driving, you will need something else to do, right?

Right now, the Vision-S has something in between Level 2 and Level 3 autonomous driving. This includes adaptive cruise control, self-parking and automatic lane changing. The brand does have Level 4 in their plans, something that the Vision-S will test.

As for passenger entertainment, the Vision-S has 5G connection as well as an integrated PlayStation 5. Imagine playing games on your way to work in the morning with a 360 Reality Audio sound system, because it has that too.

What we can expect from this concept car is to find parts of it in EVs in the future.
