Electric Mercedes-Benz EQA revealed
Mercedes-Benz has recently revealed their second all-electric vehicle, the EQA. According to Mercedes-Benz themselves, this is essentially an EV GLA. So, this is a model to fill the EV compact SUV slot in the brand’s lineup with many more derivatives to come. For now, we just get to see the EQA 250.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA is like an electric GLA.
The GLA influence is impossible to not see. There are a few unique elements for aerodynamics, but they are very similar. Speaking about the aerodynamics, Mercedes-Benz went as far as they could to improve the drag coefficiency for maximum range. This includes a completely enclosed underbody, aerodynamic wheels and multiple spoilers to help deflect air.
Inside the cabin is pretty much exactly like the GLA but with a rosé gold colour. It’s been very subtly added and fits in very well. There are two options for the MBUX infotainment system, two seven-inch or 10.25-inch screens that come with the Hey Mercedes digital assistant. Luggage capacity is 340 litres according to the brand.
Motor details with more to come.
The electric motor powers the front wheels with 140 kW and 375 Nm while getting power from the 66,5 kWh lithium-ion battery. This will get the Mercedes-Benz EQA to 100 km/h in a claimed 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h. If you’re not trying to go as fast as you can to reach those numbers, the claimed range is 489 km.
Mercedes-Benz has said that there will be more derivatives of the EQA. These include an all-wheel drive, higher performance and long-distance versions. The latter was said to have at least 500 km of range.
Navigation tech to get you where you need to be.
Mercedes-Benz has equipped this new EV with something they call Navigation with Electric Intelligence. Its purpose is to calculate the fastest way for you to get to your destination while calculating when and where to charge. It takes charging stops, terrain, traffic and your driving style into consideration to set a route that will hopefully be the best one available.
As for finding those charging stations, Mercedes-Benz will make more than 450,000 charging stations available on the Mercedes Me Charge network in three different countries. These stations will charge the EQA from ten to eighty percent in around thirty minutes. The system will also allow charging at more than 175,000 public charging points in Europe.
Naturally, with recent EVs, there’s an array of intelligent driving aids. For extra safety, the body of the car was designed to protect the battery from being pierced in case of an accident. An event that could cause a fire if it were to happen.
