2021 Opel Crossland

As part of the Stellantis Group global strategy, Opel has announced the specifications and price for the new 2021 Crossland SUV. It will make its way to South Africa with three variants at launch. As a facelift, there are no major updates to the performance, but they still updated the suspension.

Brand new Vizor face on the 2021 Opel Crossland.

The 2021 Crossland is the first Opel to feature the new Vizor face which offers plenty of space for the autonomous tech that will start making its way into new models. The Opel Crossland doesn’t feature any of them though, so it’s more of a time saver on future design for Opel.

Apart from that, there are new front and rear skidplates as well as LED foglamps. The range-topping Elegance model will feature even more visual upgrades like a gloss-black finish, chrome-effect beltline, electrically folding mirrors and rain-sensing wipers.

Updates to the cabin.

The cabin remains mostly the same. The boot space boasts a claimed 410 litres, but that can change since the rear bench can slide forward and backwards to increase legroom. With the bench folded down, there is 1 255 litres of storage space.

While the entry-level models will come with a five-inch touchscreen infotainment system, higher-spec models will come with a seven-inch screen. The system comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto we well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The Elegance models will feature more cabin updates like fake leather or cloth upholstery, leather-trimmed steering wheel and several driver assistance features.

Two engine options available for the three derivatives.

Opel has given two engines options to the Opel Crossland. The first is a 60 kW and 118 Nm 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The second is an 81 kW and 205 Nm 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a six-speed automatic. The Elegance derivative only gets the latter engine.

Opel developed new springs and dampers for the McPherson strut front suspension and the torsion-beam rear axle. This will improve the ride quality according to Opel.

Standard safety features include forward collision alert with auto braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure, driver drowsiness, front/rear park assist, cruise control with speed limiter, AB, EBFD and Hill Start.
