New Jeep Grand Cherokee L Reveal

Jeep has revealed the new seven-seater Grand Cherokee L, a slightly bigger people mover variant of the original Grand Cherokee. There will be four trim levels available on the American market which is where it will launch. As for local availability, that information has yet to be announced but it is scheduled to arrive in South Africa.

Updates for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

Since this is just a seven-seater version of an already in production model, there is not too much new to talk about. Jeep, however, did change up the design slightly for the Grand Cherokee L to make it stand out from the original five-seater.

As for the infotainment system, an 8.4-inch touchscreen comes standard. Buyers can choose to upgrade that to a significantly larger 10.1-inch screen. Behind the wheel, there is a 10.30inch digital dashboard which, like the infotainment system, should function exactly like the Grand Cherokee.

On-road and off-road performance.

The engine options remain the same. These are a 3.6-litre V6 capable of 216 kW and 348 Nm, and a 5.7-litre V8 with 266 kW and 528 Nm. Both options come attached to an eight-speed automatic gearbox but quite surprisingly, four-wheel drive is optional. Yes, the standard model is two-wheel drive pushing the purpose of this car being more of a people mover than anything else.

That’s not to say the Jeep Grand Cherokee L can’t do off-roading. With the new Quadra-Lift adaptive air suspension, when the driver puts the car into Off-Road Mode 1, the car will raise up by 4 cm. With Off-Road Mode 2, the ride will raise by a further 6 cm. An Aero Mode balances the raising ride hight by lowering the car for on-road driving.
