Mini is expanding its EV options

Mini is stepping up its EV range and joining the majority of brands in electrification. As of right now, Mini offers one full EV model that we know as the Cooper SE. This model is the most affordable EV in the South African market as of October 2020.

Now, Mini has plans to include two more EV models in their product range to enter the crossover and premium compact segments as well as gain a stronger hold in China.

“Mini was always the answer to very special challenges relating to individual mobility. And the willingness to reinvent the status quo continues to shape the brand to this day. Alongside electromobility, harnessing new target groups and sales markets will be crucially important for the future of Mini.” – Bernd Körber, Head of Mini.

Two new Mini EV models are on the horizon.

We won’t keep you waiting any longer. The first of the EVs planned is an electric variant of the Countryman based on the next-generation models. The second will be an entirely new model that will slot in under the EV Countryman. These will not be replacements. In fact, Mini has made it very clear that they will still be offering petrol and diesel engine options.

It makes a lot of sense to continue to making EV versions of their top-performing models like the Countryman. While we cannot tell for sure what the new model will look like either, we know that it will remain true to the brand’s distinct style.

“It is part of our responsibility to the brand and the community to preserve the unique character of Mini and develop the portfolio according to our brand values. That is why every new model from our brand in future will be unmistakably a Mini.” – Bernd Körber
