Bugatti Bolide is out the box
Bugatti has revealed their latest hypercar, the Bolide. It’s a track-focused vehicle based on the Chiron with an impressive weight-to-power ratio. Even though Bugatti has made the reveal, they are yet to decide whether or not the Bolide will go into series production. After seeing the outcome of a lot of hard work, we imagine Bugatti will want to.
The Bugatti Bolide embodies extreme.
“In my 16 years at Bugatti, I have never worked on a more extreme concept.” – Achim Anscheidt, Director of Design at Bugatti
Before we talk about the looks, let’s look at some numbers. The Bolide has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, a width of 1,990 mm and a height of 995 mm. At this size and dry, whole hypercar weight in at 1240 kg. They achieved this wight with the use of a carbon monocoque and titanium elements. Bugatti went a step further and added aerospace titanium alloy components as well.
The outer skin of the intake scoop on the roof is also morphable to optimise the active airflow. The word optimise is going to become a theme very soon. While driving at lower speeds, the surface of the scoop remains smooth while at fast speeds, a “field of bubbles bulges out.” This will deduce the aerodynamic drag of the scoop by 10 percent.
As Ancheidt describes, the design of the Bolide is extreme. Air ducts are very pronounced, two-tone colours create a striking appearance and at the rear, the ‘X’ shaped taillights are striking. This was all to combine the aerodynamic design with Bugattis language and emphasise the power this Bolide carries. To top it all off, the Bolide has a massive rear wing.
The interior follows this same lightweight and aerodynamic focused design with the continuation of the two-tone colours. It would appear as though the materials are a mix of carbon fibre and Alcantara, what do you think?
Because the Bolide has yet to even be decided whether it will be produced or not. We imagine that the bold colours we see now may be subject to change or have customisable options if Bugatti decides to produce it.
Over 500 km/h through highly optimised mechanics.
1361 kW and 1859 Nm come from the powerful 8-litre quad-turbo W16 engine while using 110 octane racing fuel. This gets the Bolide to top speeds of over 500 km/h. Official numbers yet to be announced.
Here is where the word ‘optimise’ will return again and again as Bugatti has optimised every little part they could. This starts with the engine and gearbox, all optimised for high engine speeds. Bugatti also overhauled the engine’s cooling and lubrication systems. Instead of water-to-air intercooling, the Bolide has an air-to-air intercooling with water pre-cooling.
