Maserati reveal the new MC20 supercar
Maserati has pulled the covers off their new supercar, the MC20 where MC means Maserati Corse. With loads of effort put into being as light and aerodynamic as possible without compromising elegant design, this Maserati MC20 has outstanding performance. As expected of course.
Maserati succeeded in making a sleek, elegant MC20.
Maserati went out of their way to maintain performance figures while keeping this smooth, minimalistic design that references the MC12 hypercar. Everything is built around a carbon-fibre shell, the same material that will make up for a large portion of this car. Maserati designed the MC20 package to underpin the future coupe, roadster and electric variants as well.
A low, wide grill holds the brand’s trident logo, flanked by two large air intakes underneath LED headlights. At the back are long taillights that are above the two exhausts and rear diffuser. Everything was built to subtly give maximum aerodynamics that had over 3000 hours put in to achieve.
Black and blue coat the interior with loads of high-quality material.
Even the look of the interior already shows the effort Maserati has put into the elegant feel of this MC20. All the material surfaces are made from a mix of black leather and Alcantara with bright blue stitching. The rest is dominated by the exposed carbon-fibre finish that is used even on the gear shift paddles.
Two ten-inch screens are used for both the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. These can be connected to the owner’s phone or watch. That phone running low? Well, there’s a wireless charging pad and plenty of other features to keep you busy. These include web-based navigation, Alexa and a wifi hotspot.
Maserati’s own engine at heart.
The power from the Maserati MC20 comes from their own engine. This is the first time in 20 years that Maserati has produced their own engine and they went through a lot of effort to make is special. It’s a twin-turbo six-cylinder 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine named Nettuno. Mated to an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission with a limited-slip diff, the peak output figures are 463 kW and 730 Nm.
Thanks to all the carbon-fibre, the MC20 weighs in at under 1500 kg. The powerful engine, light weight and smart aerodynamics allow this supercar to sprint to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and then reach 200 km/h in 8.8 seconds. The top speed is 325 km/h.
Launch dates and local arrival dates are yet to be announced, but this car would certainly be worth the wait if it’s something you can manage to own. For the rest of us, it would be an awesome sight to see on the road.
