Audi revealed Q4 Sportback e-tron concept
Audi has just shown off their next concept car and it’s an all-electric Q4 Sportback e-tron. Audi says that this concept “gives potential Q4 customers the opportunity to start thinking about which version they prefer roughly a year before the first vehicles will be delivered”. Which means that what we are looking at right now is likely what we are going to see next year, 2021. Audi can, of course, make changes between now and then and they likely will, but it will probably not stray too far.
The electric design of the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept.
From an initial glance, this Q4 Sportback e-tron looks a lot like the previous Q4 concept, except with a more coupe body. It’s sleek, stylish and it definitely says future car when you look at it. The only part of the design that confuses us is that they kept a massive grille on an electric car. It’s still no turnoff as everything else looks stunning.
Audi’s next-gen Virtual Cockpit and new augmented reality.
Audi has kitted this car with their next-gen Audi Virtual Cockpit complete with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It’s incredibly spacious thanks to all the bits and bobs becoming simple buttons and moving to the infotainment screen. Even though a lot of the car’s features are controlled digitally, Audi seems to have kept many physical buttons around the steering wheel and doors.
Everything is trimmed with sustainable and recycled materials according to Audi and this car should also supply comfortable space for up to 4 passengers. Although, the swooping coupe roof does leave concerns for taller passengers.
A fancy new feature makes its way into this EV, a heads-up display that features augmented reality. We are imagining directional arrows interposed over the street and useful information about what is around you but is likely not the case. Whatever it is, it’s a step closer to that fantasy.
Two twin electric motors on each axle.
Kitted out with 2 electric motors that supply 225 kW to all 4 wheels. So, this Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron will not be a slow car. It’s powered by an 82 kW/h battery according to Audi, it could reach 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds (probably a very generous figure) and a top speed of 180 km/h. Through fast charging, it could get to 80% in just 30 minutes and at full charge drive you around for 450 km.
The concept and the final Q4 Sportback e-tron will be assembled on the Volkswagen Modular Electrification Platform. This is the same platform shared by the ID.3.
It will likely not land in South Africa.
Audi has not said anything about the production version of the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept coming to local shores. In our opinion, it most likely will not due to the lack of EV support our country currently has. That doesn’t mean things won’t change or that Audi won’t blow us away with surprising news. We hope for that.
