Toyota Hilux 2020 update
It is official in both European and Thailand, the Toyota Hilux has been updated for 2020. While there are no confirmed features and dates for our South African market, the update will make its way to our shores including many visual and performance enhancements.
We have been able to take a look at the two range-topping models, Invincible X in Europe and Revo Rocco in Thailand. While we can expect our own range-topping model to differ, we can get a good gauge on what to expect by looking at what is already out there.
A strong new look for the Toyota Hilux 2020.
The new design is strong with great use of colour and shape. Both models have slimmer headlamps with LED lighting. Between them is a very big grille with a thick black surround and a heftier crossbar. This is all complemented very well by a dark grey in other parts of the bodywork and chrome accents that too, feature all around the car. Most notably the grille and skid plates. It makes every part of this new Toyota Hilux pleasing to look at and we hope to do a lot more of that in 2020.
There are some visual differences in the Invincible X and he Revo Rocco but what we have mentioned above mostly features in both. So, it is very possible that we might see similar design elements in a South African version too.
Updated tech with more features.
Apart from looking very comfortable and featuring a sleek design that brings back the chrome highlights. The interior too has some more notable upgrades. A larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be found above the centre console. It has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Toyota say that the ‘voice recognition’ has been enhanced.
Before you start talking to the car, let’s talk about the updated instrument cluster. Apart from looking good and being easy to read, there is also a 4-inch screen right in the middle that should be easily controlled from the steering wheel.
A bigger engine and reviewed suspension.
The engine is where all the talk about this update really is for the 2020 Toyota Hilux. It has a GD-6 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. Depending on range choice and transmission, this bakkie can make 130 kW and 420 Nm all the way to 150 kW and 500 Nm. Think Hilux is no joke, in fact, the Invincible X was tested from 0 to 100 km/h and it did it in 10 seconds.
Toyota has also said that this Hilux features new components and enhanced cooling as well as a tuned accelerator response for greater control. We can also expect to see a revised suspension system that should, according to Toyota, improve the comfort on rough roads when carrying a lighter load.
We can expect to see the new Toyota Hilux on the market later in 2020. In South Africa, later still. While there are no confirmed dates but we know it is coming and look forward to it.
