Golf 8 goes on pause and GTI gets delayed
Volkswagen has recently confirmed that the launch of the Golf 8 GTI will be delayed. This while the standard Golf 8 gets recalled after a software glitch, Jurgen Stackmann has also recently talked about the potential end to the Golf. 
The Golf 8 GTI was planned to launch in the final quarter of 2020. Volkswagen says that due to delays caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic, they cannot reach that date. So, the sporty hatchback will not be gracing us this year. Instead, the Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI is now set to launch in the first quarter of 2021. At least it is not a huge delay.
In Europe, the sales of the standard Golf 8 have come across a software glitch. Volkswagen is now planning a recall of the car. While it has not been found in every Golf, the software issue affects the emergency call assistance function, eCall. It is responsible for making a free call when the car is involved in a serious accident. Sales will resume only when this glitch is fixed.
Meanwhile, a board member at Volkswagen brand for sales, Jurgen Stackmann has spoken about the future of the Golf. He says that the fully electric markets will put an end to many Volkswagen products as the plan is to switch to the ID series, VW’s EV range. The Golf is not part of the ID series, but this doesn’t mean the end of it just yet says Stackmann. We can still expect a Golf 9 to come into production in the future. Since many countries are not yet ready to make the switch to all-electric cars, there is still plenty of time before we say goodbye to the Golf.
