Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 has 1045 kW

Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400

When Ford said the future of their Mustang would be electric, they were not talking about this Cobra Jet 1400. They are still making one anyway and it promises to make a big show with what electric vehicles are capable of.

The Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is their first dragster prototype with all-electric propulsion. When I think of the purpose of this car, to demonstrate the capabilities of an electric powertrain, the Lotus Evija comes to mind and when we talk about what this Mustang should be capable of, you will see why.

“Ford has always used motorsport to demonstrate innovation. Electric powertrains give us a completely new kind of performance and the all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 is one example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit. We’re excited to showcase what’s possible in an exciting year when we also have the all-electric Mustang Mach-E joining the Mustang family.” – Dave Pericak, Global Director, Ford Icons.

There’s a mechanical beast inside this Mustang Cobra Jet.

With bright orange tubes running around the electric motor, the view under the hood is something unique. You can see it all on the Ford Performance YouTube video.

While official numbers are not final, Ford projects this car to deliver over 1045 kW and over 1490 Nm. Now keep in mind that in an electric vehicle, that power is instant. Ford also predicts that this Mustang Cobra Jet will complete a quarter-mile drag race in around 8 seconds reaching speeds of 275 km/h. It will definitely throw the driver into the back of their seat.

What about Ford’s production EV Mustang?

While the next Ford Mustang that is not an SUV called the Mach-E will probably not be as extreme as this Cobra Jet 1400, it still makes me excited for it. This is probably the feeling that Ford wants out of their big reveal later this year so that diehard fans on board with an EV.
