The Prophecy of Hyundai

Recently announced, Hyundai has revealed a new EV concept that is going to inspire the future of their design, the Prophecy. It was originally planned to be shown off at the Geneva Show before it’s a cancellation, it shows some exciting ideas, some we have already seen before. Hyundai Prophecy

Inspired by the ocean, sky and space.

The design choices have been taken from everywhere but the land that this car lives on. Combining elements to create something that could inspire future design. As said by Samuel Kim, senior designer “the bubble shape, like a spaceship, gives you a feeling that the future can be bright and delightful.” That same share was also described as a black pebble on the beach by SangYup Lee.

There is no steering wheel

The interior is heavily inspired by the aeronautical industry. As explained by Luc Donckerwolke“the same concept of trying to liberate the space that we get from the electric platform came into the ergonomic interface with the driver. So, they removed the steering wheel and replaced it with two joysticks. This is not the first time we have seen Hyundai make the interior of their car feel like an aeroplane cockpit. The new Hyundai Elantra has that exact same goal, possibly already inspired by Prophecy.

There are two modes this car seems to have, a relaxed mode and a driving mode. There was no explanation to the use of these other than for when you park and when you drive. What I think this could be inspiring is a switch to automated driving and being able to switch between that and regular controlled driving.

Donckerwolke also spoke about the special wool used for the interior material saying that its to represent the use of sustainable material, reducing the footprint of this car. Interior of Prophecy Hyundai

The Prophesy is what its name is, to tell the future. So, we aren’t going to see anything as stunning like this car yet, but it’s the direction Hyundai will be working towards.
