Suzuki S-Presso is the cheapest new car

The Suzuki S-Presso is probably the cutest looking SUV set to come to South Africa. The price gets even cuter, like adding caramel to your espresso, it’s the cheapest new car on the market.

Full Suzuki S-Presso SUVIt’s not just a very cheap car, the S-Presso offers as many high-end features as Suzuki could possibly fit. It’s quite the feat considering that its price beats that of the Renault Kiwid.

So what make the S-Presso so adorable?

It’s probably it’s little face sitting on top a massive grille. It makes me think of a Jimny with rounder features. This is by no means a bad thing, in fact, Suzuki made this car look very friendly and stylish for its price range. The wheels are 14-inches, the elevated body of the car making them look deceptively small (another reason for its cuteness).

There is a clear divide between the top and bottom of the car with the plastic black armour that runs right around. At the top of the range, the model called S-Edition, there are silver highlights in the grill that make this S-Presso stand out.

It’s inside where Suzuki made the difference.

The first thing you see is the round centre console housing the driver’s display and a 7-inch infotainment system. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The only disappointing thing is that the infotainment is not standard and only comes in on the GL+ model. Sorry lower price range, at least it’s only R5000 more.

The S-Presso will also come with electric windows for the front seats, air conditioning and reverse parking sensors with camera that displays through the centre console. Right at the back, the boot offers 239 litres of space.

No sport in this SUV.

Run by a 1-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, you could get 50 kW and 90 Nm of torque. There is no announcement of their being a diesel option. You get to choose between a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission with about an R13 000 price gap between them.

Anti-lock braking system and emergency brake-force distribution will both be standard. Thanks, Suzuki.

The price that beats the Kiwid.

With only an R5000 difference between the GL and the GL+, I would recommend making that jump if you are looking to get this Suzuki. All models will get a 2-year / 30 000km service plan, and 5-year / 200 000km mechanical warranty.
