Volkswagen has been a very consistent brand from the very beginning of the Cars Consumer Awards in 2016. After a very successful and record-breaking 2019, VW couldn’t have had it any better coming into these awards.
“We are truly happy and honored with the vote of confidence and support from our customers. At Volkswagen we pride ourselves with outstanding products and excellent customer service and winning the Brand of the Year award is recognition of the great work being done by Volkswagen employees as well as the dealer network,” said Mike Glendinning, Director: Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen Group South Africa.
Which car won what?
The very first award was for compact hatchbacks and it went to the Polo, becoming the second time it has won this award. Then the Polo GTI took the fun Hatchback Category with the Golf GTI next with the premium hatchback category.
The new T-cross took an award too, winning the compact family car. Then Arteon defended the business class category for the third time while finally, Amarok won the leisure double cab category.
Some other cars that are worth mentioning are the Toyota Fortuner and the Suzuki Swift, both defending their titles from last year, adventure SUV and budget car respectively. There was a first to the stage too, the Chinese SUV brand Haval was a fresh sight at the event.
Volkswagen now has the most total category wins of 16. While very impressive, the other brands are close on their heels. It will be exciting to see the turnout for next year.
