Wait a minute Doc, are you telling me you are building a DeLorean Alpha5? The answer to that is yes. DeLorean is back to tackle the electric future after more than four decades since we saw the DMC-12 that features in Back to the Future.
DeLorean are not sharing too many details about the Alpha5 yet, but they have revealed a design and given us some specs that we can expect to see. This won’t be the only model either as DeLorean have a second model in the line-up too.
“We have been given the opportunity to reimagine a brand that has meant to much to so many people from all corners of the globe for four decades. DeLorean has touched so many lives and set the stage for so many memories. We are all now witnessing a new chapter of this amazing story”. – Neilo Harris, Vice President of Delorean Motor Company
Great Scott! This new DeLorean looks good.
While not as cool as riding in an original DMC-12, its old school cool vibes are great. Designed by Italdesign, there is a neat blend of modern minimalism and legacy design cues. Probably one of the biggest things to note are those gullwing doors that open up the entire cabin.
At 5-metres long, this is no small car. Its intention is to be a 4-seat grand tourer so space and comfort are essentials. The concept for the interior shows just that with a minimalistic design, flat-bottom steering wheel and tidy infotainment and instrument cluster.
Nobody is going to call the DeLorean Alpha5 chicken.
That was the last Back to the Future reference, we promise. The statement is true if the performance of the upcoming DeLorean Alpha5 is as good as the company says it can be.
A full-electric motor is powered by a 100 kWh battery that can have around 483 km of range according to the brand. They have also said that that setup can get the car from zero to 100 km/h in three seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. That’s really quick for a car that we’d be excited about even if it became the slowest EV of all time.
We are super excited to see where DeLorean takes their new cars now that they are back.
