In case you haven’t seen it, Porsche built the swan art car that was originally created by the artist Chris Labrooy. Yes, the pictures you are looking at now is not the digital art made by Chris Labrooy, it’s an actual, real-life Porsche that can actually be seen in person.
From Chris Labrooy’s art to the actual car.
Chris Labrooy is a 3D artist and a big car enthusiast. A very relatable trait to have.
“I’ve always been into cars, ever since I was a small boy,” said Labrooy “I’d play with them, then I would draw them, then drive them in computer games. Even as a youngster I was fascinated by the design of cars. I remember seeing an episode of Top Gear where they went to the Royal College of Art and from the next day onwards I was telling my friends that that was where I wanted to go. To study car design.”
Combine these two things and you get videos like the one below where we can bear witness to some surreal swan Porsche cars just going about their lives at home.
It turns out that Porsche really loved this video. So much that they went from bragging about it to actually bringing it to life.
The real-life Porsche Swan Art Car.
The company has stated that this creation was made in celebration of Porsche China’s 20th anniversary. If there was ever a time to build something like this, that sounds like a good one.
It pays homage to the first Porsche sold in China and uses a real 996-generation Porsche 911 as its base. Wheels replaced by tubes and a giant inflatable swan head sticking out through the front windscreen.
While you physically cannot drive one, you might still get the chance to see one. Porsche will be displaying the swan art car across galleries and museums. It all seems like quite a lot of fun.
