We’ve seen Apple and Samsung try their hands at EV cars and now Xiaomi is trying their hand at this venture. Now you know we like to talk about upcoming EVs and electric startups, so this news has gotten us quite excited.
This isn’t coming out of the blue though as Xiaomi announced that it was investing R145 billion into a new EV division earlier this year.
What to expect from Xiaomi, the smartphone maker’s EV.
This venture seems way more promising than the past attempts of Apple who spent a long time trying to find a manufacturer that would agree to build their cars. While Samsung has made an EV too, their car will not make it to market as they are using it to test new technology that they will apply to other manufacturers’ cars.
Xiaomi, on the other side of the coin, is making its own division dedicated to manufacturing their EV line-up. Company Chief Executive Lei Jun also confirmed that these cars will be produced in the first half of 2024. This was further verified by Zang Ziyuan, Xiaomi’s international marketing department director.
More good news for the smartphone brand, Xiaomi’s shares have jumped over 5.4 per cent after this announcement.
We look forward to seeing what Xiaomi has to bring to the table and hope that they make something that pushes the design of new cars forward. There are too many EVs that look like everything else you would see on the road and a smartphone company has the chance to change that.
