Vazirani Automotive, a Mumbai-based EV start-up, has revealed their first EV hypercar, the Ekonk. The company claims that it is the “lightest EV ever” and that it is the fastest car to be produced in India. A rather impressive title for a very cool looking car.
“In the Indian scriptures, Ekonk signifies the beginning of the divine light. The big bang. For us, Ekonk signifies our real beginning, where for the first time design and innovation come together. It’s our first vehicle that’s ‘alive’,” said the firm’s founder, Chunky Vazirani.
Vazirani Automotive designed the Ekonk for speed.
The Vazirani Ekonk is a single-seat EV prototype that follows the firm’s Shul hypercar concept that we saw earlier this year. Thanks to it’s body that is entirely made from carbon fibre, Vazirani says that the Ekonk only weighs 738 kg.
Every bit of its design was made for speed as the brand also claims that the Ekonk has one of the lowest drag coefficients for a vehicle of its kind. This didn’t stop them from making the vehicle look stunning too. The unique shape is largely due to there only being one seat, but it is still very refreshing to see an EV company make something that stands out.
And the Ekonk is really fast.
With engines that produce 531 kW to reach a top speed of 308 km/h, the Ekonk is very quick. In a sprint from zero to 100 km/h, this EV gets there in a mere 2.5 seconds.
To keep the power source cool at speed, Vazirani Automotive has used technology named DiCo which uses air instead of liquid-cooling that most other EVs use. This tech is based on biomimicry used by animals to regulate their body temperatures through breathing. When Vazirani said “alive” they really meant it.
