The majority of Chinese electric vehicles will be staying in their home country, but Geely has other plans with its Zeekr 001.
The company, together with help from Volvo, aims to market its sub-brand Zeekr to several markets around the world, Tesla being an open target for competition. The 001 is the debut vehicle for Zeekr and it has only recently started production. Will Tesla have to worry about losing out?
The Zeekr 001 is almost ready for the world.
The name of the EV is numerically badged 001, but despite its binary name and electric power, it doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Fitting in with most SUVs and crossover’s we were initially disappointed by the Chinese brand’s design. On the second review, after removing exciting expectations, the car looks just fine. It fits right in with Geely’s other sub-brand, Lynk & Co. This becomes very apparent when you compare light and grille designs.
That is one part of the Zeekr 001 that is unnecessary. Because it’s electric, it has no need for a grille, yet the brand still puts a grille shaped panel in its place. Apart from that, it’s a smooth looking EV.
Impressive performance.
This Zeekr 001 draws power from a 100 kWh Z-Battery pack to two electric motors, one on each axle. Together they have an output of 400 kW and 768 Nm which allows the car to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. When it comes to regular driving, Geely predicts a range of 700 km.
When hooked up to a 360 kW rapid-charger, which may not be available everywhere, you can get from 10% to 80% of battery power in just 30 minutes.
The first deliveries of the Zeekr 001 have already happened on the 23rd of October throughout China and Geely intends to eventually introduce it to the world with Tesla in its sights.
