Hyundai has taken the sheets off their upcoming Bayon. This model, planned for a launch in 2022, is a compact SUV that will make its way to the European market. So, we will likely not see this car in South Africa.
The Bayon continues the new Hyundai look.
When describing the Bayon as a compact SUV, the word compact is doing a lot of work as this is Hyundai’s smallest SUV. Just 4180 mm long and 1490 mm wide. It also has decent ground clearance for its segment – 183 mm.
The design follows the same design language that Hyundai has applies to all their new models, so you can find many familiar features. It’s all very angular and the lighting signature is very strong. There will be three different wheels to choose from. Starting with fifteen-inch steel wheels and then sixteen and seventeen-inch alloy units.
Inside, the cabin is controlled via a digital dashboard capable of wireless phone mirroring. It also links to a Bose sound system and connects you to the safety features like Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) and Lane Following Assist (LFA). It does have a smaller boot compared to its bigger siblings with a claimed 411 litres.
Two engines with a mild-hybrid option.
The first engine option for the Hyundai Bayon is a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 48-Volt mild-hybrid technology. It comes in two states of tune – 74 kW and 88 kW – and comes with the option of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The other engine option is a naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine the produces 62 kW.
