With the upcoming compact mini people mover (MPV) T-Class, Mercedes-Benz has revealed the EQT Concept. It’s a preview of what is to come to the market in 2022 as the replacement for the Citan, however, that name will stick around for commercial offerings.
Futuristic looks on the Mercedes-Benz EQT concept.
A sleek grille, or silver bar in the case of an EV, runs across the front of the car joining the two slim headlights. It’s a clean futuristic look that we imagine would look best in black or white body finishes. There is a sliding door on each side of the car and they are massive. Both of them can open wide enough for passengers to easily climb into the third row of seats.
With a large opening for the boot as well, this EQT Concept and hopefully the Mercedes-Benz T-Class will make a fantastic premium car for big families or people who need to move a lot of cargo. That’s just the issue though, the premium part. We can’t see the price tag anywhere near a reasonable amount.
Inside, the cabin makes use of both recycled leather and Nappa leather which almost seems to undo the purpose of the recycling. It’s like being a vegan for only half the day. That aside, the rest of the concept looks gorgeous with a pearlescent trim surrounding digital screens, buttons and circle air vents.
Electric, but there will still be petrol and diesel?
The EQT Concept confirms that Mercedes-Benz will be adding MPV under its electric portfolio. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be conventional engines, a petrol and diesel option is expected to be produced as well. The models will be co-developed with the Renault Kangoo, so while specifications are non-existent right now, we can guess that there may be similarities.
