Even before the official reveal of the BMW X3, the brand has just revealed a Mzansi Edition variant. The luxury SUV gets sporty design features and additional accessories to what is now the local range-topping model, being based on the xDrive20d.
Sportier without Mzanzi flavour.
Buyers will get the option of five colours that will accompany the M Sport package that comes with M carbon mirror caps, a black rear spoiler and red M Sport brake callipers. In addition, the Mzansi Edition will receive the M high-gloss Shadow Line package which is complete with a black grille, black chrome tailpipes and a rear diffuser finished it, you guessed it, gloss black. Finally, there is an electrically operated tow hitch.
The cabin receives the BMW Live Cockpit Professional along with ambient lighting, panorama sunroof and a wireless charging panel. What we do see a lack of is anything Mzansi. You could give this variant any other name and we wouldn’t question it.
Performance and price for the new BMW X3 Mzansi Edition.
Being based on the BMW X3 xDrive20d, this Mzansi Edition is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 140 kW and 400 Nm. It comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. BMW says that is will be able to get from zero to 100 km/h in around eight seconds.
Sales are already open with this new flagship model retailing as $1 012 938. A rather massive price tag on top of a model that probably isn’t much different from the standard X3 xDrive20d.
