Mazda has brought out a new flagship model for the BT-50 in Australia, calling it the Thunder. A name that is exactly like the local Ford Ranger Thunder. While this is an Australian exclusive, we are expected to see the standard BT-50 reach our local shores. But for now, let’s take a look at what this model comes with.
What makes the Mazda BT-50 Thunder different?
This flagship BT-50 Thunder receives a bulky steel bullbar in the front complete with an LED bar and underbody protection. At the sides, there are Thunder decals, but they aren’t the only aesthetic change to distinguish this model.
The anti-slip side steps, fender flares, sports bar and 18-inch wheels are all blacked out. Inside, the cabin is upgraded with brown leather upholstery.
There is no change to the engine, so the same 140 kW and 450 Nm apply to this model. What this model does get is an aluminium electrically operated roller cover that is linked to the vehicle’s central locking system. Additional upgrades are available too.
While we wait for Mazda to bring the BT-50 to South Africa, it’s important to remember that this Thunder variant will not be what we get locally. This model was created specifically for Australia. We will likely see the standard models and maybe, just maybe, a flagship model of our own. Maybe one to compete with the Ranger Thunder.
