New Hyundai Kona N teaser revealed

Hyundai Kona N teaser

After camouflage teasers in January, Hyundai has revealed new images of the upcoming Kona N. These more revealing images show much more of what the high-performance crossover will actually look like.

While the model should be available in the USA by around the end of the year (according to Car and Driver), Hyundai has said nothing about South Africa. Our fingers are crossed.

More air intakes for an even sportier Kona N.

As with all N models, there is a much more sporty appearance to match the improved performance. The front end features large air intakes that flank that two-part grille. The upper grille features the “N” badge.

Just above that are three smaller air intakes that would channel air under the bonnet (that is if they are real, we will find out on launch). A unique lighting signature has also been given that will have this model stand out in the night as well.

Right around the Kona N is a red highlight line that is signature for Hyundai N models. They lead to the exclusive N range alloy wheels that are just as sporty as the new body. The sporty look is further bolstered by a double-wing roof spoiler that features an F1-inspired triangular brake light. At the rear, there are dual exhaust tips and a diffuser.

Hyundai has confirmed the same engine in the Veloster N.

Hyundai has confirmed that the Kona N will be powered by a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. We don’t yet know if all-wheel-drive will be available or what the peak outputs are yet. What we do know that the Kona N will come with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that naturally features launch control. What N model wouldn’t.

The Kona N can naturally be compared to the similar Veloster N and rightfully so. They will share an engine and should be comparable in terms of weight. If the Kona N comes with an all-wheel-drive setup, we expect it to quickly become more popular.
