New Jeep Compass facelift

Jeep Compass

The second generation of the Jeep Compass has been revealed for the European market. The company has given it an update to the exterior, cabin and added level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability. While it has clearly been marketed to Europe, availability in South Africa has yet to be mentioned. We can expect to hear more toward the end of the year.

The new looks on the new Jeep Compass.

There will be five trim levels to follow the new Jeep Compas – Sport, Longitude, Limited, S and Trailhawk. For all of them, the exterior design is subtle with slimmer LED headlights and new bumpers which make it different enough to notice.

It’s the cabin that receives the biggest update which is most notable on the dashboard. There is an entirely new set up with an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch infotainment screen featuring Uconnect 5. The screen itself now sits in a more central and higher up position for a less distracting drive. It’s Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto compatible and features a TomTom navigation system.

In addition, there is a second 10.25-inch screen for the digital dashboard. The rest of the interior features more high-quality materials and a total of 4 litres of additional storage space.

Three engine options available in Europe.

There are engine options for petrol, diesel and hybrid setups. The petrol engine is a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit with either 96 kW or 110 kW mated to a six-speed manual or dual-clutch gearbox. The next option is a  1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission and can produce the same 96 kW. Both of these options only come in front-wheel-drive.

For all-wheel-drive, buyers will need to opt for the plug-in hybrid. There is the option of 140 kW and 117 kW, but it only comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.

As for autonomous driving, traffic sign recognition, drowsiness alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance all come standard.
