Usually, new cars come with big press announcements and loads of details, but not for the latest BMW 118d which recently got added to the 1 Series range. This diesel-powered hatchback did not come with the original launch of the latest generation 1 Series, but it was still on its way. Now, it has quietly fitted its way into South Africa and we have the specifications and prices.
Performance specifications for the diesel BMW 118d.
Powering all three trim levels that buyers can choose from is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that pushes 110 kW and 350 Nm through the front wheels. It comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
This should be good for a sprint to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 214 km/h. When not trying to make the BMW 118d go as fast as it can, BMW claims it has a fuel consumption of 4.8 L/100 km. This is probably the main reason to be buying the diesel engine over the petrol.
