Kia adds Picanto X-Line flagship in SA

Kia Picanto X-Line

Kia has officially revealed details about the updated Picanto range that includes new standard features and a flagship X-Line model. The new flagship features several changes inspired by crossovers that set it apart from the rest, but Kia didn’t forget about the rest of the range.

Kia updated the look of the Picanto X-Line.

The styling is described as crossover inspired which becomes evident when looking art the body cladding, mudguards and fake skid-plates. The grille and bumpers have been updated too as well as both head and taillights that now include LEDs. Underneath it all, are 15-inch alloy wheels.

Inside there is two-tone artificial leather upholstery as well as an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system works with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a reverse camera. Finally, buyers can add an extra R8000 to add a sunroof.

New standard equipment across the rest of the Picanto range.

The rest of the lineup, unfortunately, doesn’t benefit from the new looks. Kia didn’t leave them behind though and has added more equipment to come as standard. The entry-level Start range will gain the following:

The Kia Picanto Street is where the 8-inch infotainment system is introduced. It comes with a reverse camera as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility too.

Finally, the models just under the new X-Line is the Picanto Style. They will get new alloy wheels, electric folding mirrors and automatic headlamps. Inside the steering wheel and gearshift get wrapped in leather.

A refresher on the engine and transmission.

The whole range has the option of either a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre or 1.25-litre engine. The Start is limited to the 1.0-litre with 49 kW and 96 Nm while the new X-Line gets the larger engine with 61 kW and 122 Nm.

All engines come with the choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.
