Ferrari 550 turned into a Breadvan Hommage

Ferrari Breadvan Hommage

This is a new one-off creation of the old Ferrari Breadvan. Based on the Ferrari 550, Niels van Roij has turned into what is being called a Breadvan Hommage that has brought all the original details in while still making it new.

“We see it as a great privilege that we can celebrate the 1962 Breadvan through this Hommage commission.” – Niels van Roij.

How the Ferrari Breadvan came to be.

As van Roij explained, this is a one-off Hommage commission to recreate the original 1962 Ferrari Breadvan. It started as sketches and renders until it was finally turned into a full-sized clay model.

“Like sketching, the clay modelling process is iterative and the Breadvan Hommage was reshaped many times, to get it spot on.” – Niels van Roij

Once the clay modelling was complete, the body was made by hand by Bas van Roomen. All the key details of the original Ferrari Breadvan are there. Notice the glass dome on the bonnet.

The one thing that does set this model apart is the 550 face that this Hommage was based off on. It’s as if the original Breadvan was built in a more modern year.

The cabin was not left untouched. New carbon-fibre seats were put in and covered in blue Alcantara. An Aluminium switchgear was added too along with quilted black leather. The best feature inside the Ferrari Breadvan has to be the clock which is inscribed with “che importa.” It’s Italian for “who cares.”

Based on the 550 Maranello but still unique.

Being build on top of a Ferrari 550 Maranello, the Breadvan Hommage is powered by the same 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12. It’s mated to an open-gate six-speed manual gearbox and is rear-wheel driven.

Niels van Roij didn’t leave the mechanics of the car alone. The original Breadvan used KONI adjustable shocks. So naturally, KONI developed a one-off set of shock absorbers for the Hommage model.
