Ford has been keeping special editions of the Ranger coming one after another and now we get to see the latest one, the FX4. This follows the bold Thunder (which the FX4 takes some inspiration from) and the XL Sport. Surprisingly, the announcement of the FX4 and pricing was a lot more quiet compared to Ford’s other releases.
We can expect to see this special edition variant soon as it’s expected to hit the South African market in late February.
New features on the Ford Ranger FX4.
There are a ton of exterior details and five colours options to choose from. The first three are standard – Race Red, Agate Black and Frozen White. Moondust Silver and Sea Grey come at an extra cost of R1 260. There is an upgraded drop-in bedliner with a 12V socket while on the doors, bright orange FX4 decals decorate this Ford Ranger. The underbody also gets some more protection.
The final touches to the exterior all involved blacked-out detailing. These parts are the side-mirror caps, door handles, side steps sports bar and the Ezi-lift tailgate. It all rides on black 18-inch alloy wheels and right up front is a Thunder-like black mesh grille.
Inside, the FX4 gets some material and feature updates on top of the Ford Ranger equipment. This includes leather on the steering wheel and seats as well as a soft-touch dashboard with red stitching. Owners will also get to benefit from keyless entry and a start button.
Same engine as the Ranger XLT
Buyers will get to choose whether their FX4 comes in a 2×4 or 4×4 setup, but there are no Single Cab options. Either way, this Ranger variant will come equipped with the same 2.0-litre single turbodiesel engine that features in the XLT. That comes mated to the 10-speed automatic gearbox and pushes 132 kW and 420 Nm out onto the road.
