Ford has revealed a brand new model with their eSports team, the Fordzilla P1. Why the eSports team and why does this look like a concept car? Well, the Fordzilla P1 is a virtual race car brought to life. This is the first time this has ever been done and it was developed by the gamers and Ford designer’s themselves.
The reveal was livestreamed on the 16th of December 2020.
“Since launching Team Fordzilla in 2019 we’ve done things differently, playing to our strengths and our unique approach to gaming. Our innovative P1 race car is the perfect example, using our knowledge of the automotive world to bring to life a merging of the real and virtual worlds.” – Emmanuel Lubrani, Team Fordzilla
Fordzilla P1 – a unique gaming design.
While this car is yet to feature in a game, this still marks the first virtual racer to be physically built. It all started in March 2020 when Ford asked for a vote on the package and features that the car will have on Twitter. This included seating configuration, engine position and cockpit definition.
Nearly a quarter of a million fans voted and this is what the result was. The final exterior design was created by Arturo Ariño and the interior design by Robert Engelmann who are both Ford designers.
Inside, the model is built to show the same user interface (UI) that would show in an eSports event. Everything has been placed to keep the driver and co-driver up to date while minimizing distractions.
Final details were added to remind us that this model was partly built bt the sim-racing community. A nice touch to the final design. The only thing that would make this more exciting is if we get to see this model in an actual game or if another game decided to bring their unique car to life.
