It has been a while since we first saw the next generation of the Audi R8 and at long last, it’s on its way to South Africa. Staying mostly the same, for obvious reasons, there are a few changes and new specifications that we can look at.
Small changes to the new 2021 Audi R8.
Audi will offer the R8 in both Coupé and Spyder body styles. It keeps the same strong design before the facelift and ads an even sharper and more aggressive look. Small details have also been changed most notably in the face and rear of the car. Probably one of the most notable changes is the even larger exhaust ends.
Several colours will be available, but Audi has made one option particularly special. They call is Crystal and it starts at R30,000. There are also several 20=inch alloy wheel designs that buyers will get to choose from to make their R8, even more, their own.
There are plenty of other options, all with scarily high prices. These include the Audi magnetic ride, Carbon styling package, Dynamic steering and Laserlight headlamps.
The same engine with minor updates.
The same powerful 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine is used in the 2021 R8. This pushes 449 kW and 560 NM through the Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi claims this will get the car to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 331 km/h.
The facelift did come with some changes to the mechanics of the R8. The suspension has been stiffened and the steel anti-roll bar was replaced with a carbon one. Along with tweaks to the steering, Audi says this will give a more dynamic drive.
