In a recent, Audi has announced that they will be taking part in the 2022 Dakar Rally with something brand new. The brand calls it an innovative prototype that we have a teaser for right here.
The Dakar Rally will officially replace Audi’s factory involvement of the Formula E. Which will no longer be continued in the form of an Audi factory team after the 2021 season. With this commitment, Audi is now the first automaker that has committed to developing what they call a viable alternative drive concept.
“A multifaceted commitment to motorsport is and will remain an integral part of Audi’s strategy. We want to continue demonstrating the brand’s slogan ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ in international top-level motorsport in the future and develop innovative technologies for our road cars. The toughest rally in the world is the perfect stage for this.” – Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Board of Management and Board of Management Member for Technical Development and Product Lines at AUDI AG.
This follows in the footsteps of Audi claiming the first victory pf a hybrid racing car in the Le Mans 24 Hours. But what does it all mean?
Audi is entering a hybrid into the 2022 Dakar Rally.
Combining an electric drivetrain with a high-voltage battery and an efficient energy converter, Audi is entering a hybrid into the 2022 Dakar Rally. The battery will be able to charge while driving from its TFSI engine.
The aim for Audi is to permanently improve the performance of the electric drivetrain and the battery in the years to come. This almost seems like the upcoming Dakar will be an experiment for the fully electric cars they will produce in the future.
If you have seen their concepts for electric 4x4s, it makes a whole lot of sense.
