It has been unofficially called the Volkswagen ID 6. VW hasn’t yet given this new electric vehicle (EV) luxury sedan a name yet, but we do get to see what it will look like. As the fifth electric car from the Volkswagen, we expect the so-called ID 6 to only be seen in showrooms in 2023.
What do we know about the ‘Volkswagen ID 6’ so far?
The car will be built on Volkswagen’s modular and scalable MEB platform to achieve around 700 km of range. They have achieved this impressive range from an improved lithium battery cell efficiency and better aerodynamics.
Capable of 200 kW fast charging, with just ten minutes of downtime, you can get 230 km back into the car. Good luck finding a 200 kW fast charger is South Africa though. It’s probably why we likely won’t be seeing it here.
Yes, we don’t expect to see this stylish sedan reach our shores at all, even it might take the next three to five years to launch. With the much higher demand in SUVs elsewhere, Volkwagen prioritising the Chinese market with this ID 6.
What do you think, would you consider an electric sedan over an SUV?
Potential performance.
Right now, there is only talk of an official one motor version of the car. This should be able to get to 100 km/h in around 8.5 seconds. A two-motor GTX version might happen and if it does, it will be able to reach that same speed in about 5.6 seconds. Although, we don’t know what that will do for the impressive range yet.
Either way, that instant torque should still make this a fun car to drive.
