There’s a lot to say about the 1990s and a lot of that has to do with style, which is exactly what Mitsuoka has done with their new car, Buddy. The brand takes reliable cars that are on the market and transforms them into something new with a lot more style. If you can’t quite see it, the Buddy is based off the RAV4.
This is the first SUV to come from Mitsuoka and depending on if old school cars are your thing or not, looks amazing.
Mitsuoka Buddy and its 90s style.
The front end makes a strong first impression. You can instantly tell this car apart with the forward rake face that is dominated by a boxy chrome grille. It houses the stacked rectangle headlamps and LED DRLs that are divided by a chrome slat that runs across the grille.
Below the grille sits the chrome front bumper that wraps around the front end and covers the fog lamps. Up top is a completely redesigned bonnet. It’s not all chrome, although a lot of it is. The body comes in an option of 18 different colours.
The rear of the car is complete with a new tailgate that has a solid black panel for the Mitsuoka badging that it wears proudly. To either side sits verticle taillamps and underneath them is a chrome bumper. The only things that are still RAV4 are the wheel arches, side skirts, doors and pillars.
Interior pictures have yet to be released, but we imagine Mitsuoka has not forgotten about that.
The actual mechanics for the RAV4 have been left untouched. This will leave buyers with five trim options. Three turbocharged 2.0-litre fuel-driven engines and two 2.5-litre hybrids.
