The second generation of the Subaru BRZ has been revealed with more style and power. Again developed with Toyota, the brand plans to launch this new sports car in the 3rd quarter of 2021. While this is a “global launch”, there are currently no plans for South Africa.
Staying true to the previous Subaru BRZ.
There is still more to learn about the Subaru BRZ but we will share everything we know with you. For fans of the previous generation, the new version does not change much in terms of looks. The shapes are more fluid and styling follows a more modern sporty approach.
Inside are four seats, two bucket seats in the front and foldable seats in the back. We cannot imagine those seats offer much space for passengers though. The bucket seats up front are highlighted in bright red stitching and details.
The driver will be faced with a seven-inch digital display with an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen to the centre of the dashboard. This system gets Subaru’s latest Starlink system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
While your rear passengers may not have much space, Subaru claims enough space for a mountain bike or golf clubs.
More power behind the rear wheels.
One of the biggest changes comes from the engine that now offers more power than before. Under the hood lies a 2.4-litre horizontally-opposed four-cylinder motor that pushes 170 kW and 250 Nm through the rear wheels. This can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Subaru boasts about the BRZ having an almost perfect weight distribution. The weight has shifted lower than before and it’s all topped off with a new sport mode.
