2020 Toyota Hilux SRX changes to Raider and Legend

2020 Toyota Hilux Legend

First, we are going to have to get used to the new names because the 2020 Toyota Hilux no longer has the SRX badge. Instead, it will come with the Raider and Legend names, the latter being the flagship model with more safety features. This change and facelift now puts the 2020 Toyota Hilux in competition with the likes of the Ford Ranger.

What’s new on the outside of the 2020 Toyota Hilux?

There is not too much new on the now names Raider models. They do, however, feature four-bulb Halogen headlamps or bi-LED headlamps and LED indicators depending on which model you are looking at. The car also rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that have been finished in metallic dark-grey.

The flagship Legend models will receive a little more and understandably so. Upfront is a trapezoidal grille and a bonnet protector as well as skid plates. The headlamps come with dark-plated inserts while everything rides atop 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

A new RS optional pack that steps up the style.

With the update to the interior and engine, Toyota has given the Hilux a new RS optional pack for the 2020 model. RS is not for anything sporty though, instead, it stands for Roller Shutter. It makes sense since the key feature of the pack is the electric roller shutter cover for the load bay. Other additions that come with the RS optional pack include an aggressive body kit, rear sports bar, graphite coloured sports bar and an assisted tailgate with central locking function.

A basic upgrade to the cabin for driver comfort.

It’s good to be a driver in the new 2020 Toyota Hilux as it gets power electric seats just for that seat as well as a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This will come compatible with Andriod Auto and Apple Carplay and connects to the now 9-speaker JBL sound system. Toyota hasn’t done away with physical buttons though. There is still plenty for the controls you will need quick access to.

An engine upgrade that puts the Hilux in competition with the Ranger.

Now very close to being the Ford Ranger’s equal, Toyota has given the 2020 Hilux an impressive engine upgrade. Now powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, the power has increased to 150 kW and 500 Nm. This is with an automatic setup while the manual models stay at 420 Nm.

Able to tow 300 kg more, the Hilux can now pull equal to the Ranger with a max towing capacity of 3500 kg. This is thanks to a rejigged suspension that includes longer leaf springs. Toyota says that this will also improve the handling and ride comfort when unburdened.

The Legend 4×4 models will also come with a new balance shaft installed that improves NVH levels. In addition, every Legend will receive the Toyota Safety Sense system. This includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and pre-collision detection.
