Renault has added a new flagship model to its SUV line, the Sandero Stepway Techroad. This tops off their value for money SUV range that started in South Africa in February 2009. It features bespoke design elements and enhancements to its features.
The Renault Sandero Stepway Techroad is a little more SUV with new designs.
Renault’s goal was to enhance the ever-popular SUV look, no doubt to fit the market more. While keeping the Renault signature C-shaped Daytime running LEDs, the Sandero Stepway Techroad has had redesigned front and rear bumpers and the addition of new 16-inch two-tone wheels.
The mirrors are finished in Glass Black while designed decals run along the B-Pillars and lower sections of the doors. As standard, the Techroad model gets the same benefits that the other Stepway models receive like a roof spoiler, roof bars, and a higher ground clearance.
Rolling hills and more technology fill the interior.
The rounded features that flow together make us think of rolling hills while looking at the interior design. Renault has made a point to upgrade the materials – leather steering wheels and gear sticks – but we foresee many hard-plastic surfaces still. Optionally, you can get leather seats too. The same spacious backseats on the other Sandero’s feature here. They now also include a central three-point safety belt and a split rear bench. Boot space is very good too, coming to 292 litres.
A sizable 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. On-board navigation and Bluetooth® connectivity are two more additional features to this Stepway Techroad. That name feels like it gets longer every time we way it.
6 more additions have made their way into the Techroad; side airbags, front and rear power windows, electric side mirrors, rear park assist, rear parking camera and cruise control.
Formula 1 inspired with additional safety features.
Powering this new (here comes the name) Renault Sandero Stepway Techroad is a 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Renault says that it is Formula 1 inspired with A 5-speed manual gearbox and peak outputs of 66 kW and 135 Nm. With the new ECO driving mode, this Techroad gets a low fuel consumption of 5.2 litres/100 km.
There have been 3 more safety features made as standard, that being emergency brake assist (EBA) with ABS, electronic stability programme (ESP) with ASR and hill start assist (HSA).
The price of the new Renault Sandero Stepway Techroad.
The Renault Sandero and the new Stepway Techroad each come with a 5-year/150 000 km warranty together with a standard 2-year/30 000 km service plan. Services are at 15,000km intervals.
