Maserati Ghibli – Their first hybrid

Maserati Ghibli Hybrid

With the focus on performance, fuel consumption and lower emissions, Maserati has turned the Ghibli into their first hybrid. This is also just a start to Maserati’s electrification as we are expected to see a fully electric GranTurismo and GranCabrio in 2021. The production of the Maserati Ghibli hybrid, however, will start in the second half of 2020 and go on sale at the end of this year. 

The colour of electricity on this Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is…

Maserati has decided that light blue will be what signifies electric power and it’s the most stand out feature that differentiates the hybrid. The colour appears on the side air ducts, brakes and the trident logo. The exterior also has a redesigned grille and taillamps. 

The light blue colour makes its way into the interior as well, most notable the embroidering on the seats. Apart from that, not much about the interior has been changed. There is one new feature and that comes in the form of a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system kitted out with the Maserati Connect program. 

How does the electrified engine perform?

The Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is equipped with a turbocharged 2,0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine connected to a 48 V hybrid system. Despite the electric motor and heavy battery, Maserati says that the Ghibli Hybrid is actually lighter. 80 kg lighter than the diesel model it will be replacing. The engine and motor together send 246 kW and 450 Nm to the rear wheels. 

This should all get the new Ghibli Hybrid to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. With that, it can reach a top speed of 255 km/h.

With what Maserati calls an optimised exhaust with specifically designed resonators, hearing this Ghibli should give the exact same presence and sound that all Maseratis’ make. Now, this sounds like a car to look forward to for 2021.
