Ford is bringing the Ranger Thunder to South Africa

Ford Ranger Thunder

A while back, Ford revealed a special edition of their Ranger, giving it the Thunder badge. While we were initially put down by what seemed like a low chance of it making it to our shores, Ford went and surprised us. A recent Twitter post confirms its arrival in South Africa!

A reminder of what is to come for the Thunder.

Based on the Ford Ranger Wildtrak, there is very little change other than pure aesthetics which we are only excited to see. The body is finished in a Deep-Sea Green with black and red highlights. The biggest design change is definitely the 3D grille although we love the darkened bezels in the lights and 18-inch allow wheels. Just as a reminder to you, there is also a Thunder graphic on the front doors.

Inside the Thunder remains mostly the same which we found is a good thing because the current ranger already feels great. With the leather and uniquely embroidered seats, there is still a nice touch of improvement.

The Thunder will be powered by the same engine in the Ford Ranger.

It comes as no surprise that both the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission are used again. These are the key features to this generation of Ranger and they perform perfectly. For more details about the Ford Ranger Thunder, read our article about the ‘trim level’ reveal in Europe.

Since there were no updates about the number of models being made, we can safely assume that there will still only be 1400 right-hand drive models. That number is global which means the amount available in South Africa will be lower. So, if you want one of these Rager Thunders, you best keep your eyes on the road.
