All Ferrari owners are being warned of a recall scam that is doing the rounds in South Africa. Posted on Scuderia South Africa’s social media, it is very important that you be wary of these ‘fraudsters’.
Be wary of any phone calls you may receive regarding your car. Impersonating Ferrari dealers and calling customers, these fraudsters tell owners that their vehicle is part of a ‘recall campaign’. With permission given from the owners, they bring a flatbed truck to collect the vehicle.
By targeting dealership records, the fraudsters can use car owner’s registration numbers and other personal details making the recall scam very believable. We urge all car owners to end any call about recalls. Afterward, call a dealer immediately and tell them about the details.
Scuderia South Africa has also said, “Ferrari headquarters will never call you directly requesting the collection of your car.”
While the current threat is to Ferrari owners, this is not the first time that this scam has taken place. Toyota South Africa reported this scam in October 2019 and there’s no way of knowing if this scam will happen again. So, this message goes to everyone. If you ever get a phone call or email about recalls or anything similar, follow the same warnings as mentioned before and call the dealer directly.
Cars that are damaged, crashed or not recovered from these scams are not always paid out by insurers. So, it is up to you to make sure your keys are in the right hands.
Keep you and your car safe and be vigilant with scams.
